No Shoes? No Problem!

WEB-1010640

I might be busy, but I can always find time to photograph some of my favorites! I’ve been taking pictures of these guys since the oldest was smaller than the youngest!

I love these kiddos…they’re a lot of fun! And I love that they rock the bare feet!

Till next time…

Show Time!

Well, the time is almost here. Graduation is right around the corner, but before that, the bwfaithdavis-crop-u6093student art show! Woot! I’m excited. I’m almost ready, and I’m super thrilled to get to share the project I’ve been working on all semester.

More information on the show and all the students who are exhibiting their work can be found at http://www.cvccstudentartshow.com/.

Now I’m off to work on my artist statement for this piece of work. I’m pretty sure the artist statement is the most difficult part of any photography project. At least it is for me.

I need chocolate. How else do you get through the tough parts of projects?

Portfolio Throwdown

I went with some friends and classmates to the Light Factory in Charlotte today for a student critiquing session. It was an all day event, so I’m exhausted now, but totally jazzed about the feedback I received. I took my work in progress for this portfolio and the critiques they gave were totally enlightening. I have some things I’m going to tweak a little and I think it will make my final project amazing. It was very cool.

I also realized that even though I’m swamped with projects right now, I really need to spend more time on this website and online portfolio. I have a lot of stuff that I just haven’t had the time—no, I haven’t MADE the time—to get uploaded.

So here’s another teaser for my portfolio show coming up in just a few weeks. I will be posting more about that very soon. This is a shot that I’m re-working a little differently, (you know how picky we are about pictures of ourselves…lol) so I won’t be using this for the show, but I still like it.

I’m really excited about showing a few of the stories that are conveyed through people’s faces and hands. This has been such a fun project and I don’t know that I want to call this one finished yet…I think I’ll play a little longer. =)

Spring Break

springbreak-1We did a bit of traveling over this spring break. Unfortunately, my allergies took me for a spin and then turned into a sinus infection, which left me somewhat miserable over the entire break. Thanks to that, I didn’t feel like taking a whole lot of pictures, but I did catch a few interesting sights along our travels.

We visited Charleston first, but those were my worst days of sickness, so Mr. Lizard was the only catch I got from there.

springbreak-5Then we came home and flew out to Boston, MA. While we were up there, we drove a few hours west to Northfield, MA, to see the birthplace of Dwight L Moody. His grave was also there. Beautiful area with such a view!

So we were on the road quite a bit, but we enjoyed every minute of it (minus the sick part).

On our way back to Boston from Northfield, we took a scenic route to avoid the major traffic, and one of the tiny, curvy, backroads on which we found ourselves had a pile of rocking horses just sitting on the side of the road out in the middle of nowhere. Crazy and a little creepy, but I like the picture. Haha.

So that’s it. I’ve got some portfolio sneak peeks to share soon, so stay tuned.

Baby Love

I’ve been working on my portfolio project quite a bit over the last few weeks. It’s going well, and I photographed this sweet thing in the process, so I thought I’d share a few images.

Nature Challenge: Days 2-7

Okay, I got quite busy this last week and although I posted these on Facebook, I never quite made it here to finish posting them here. This was SUCH a fun challenge. I really do love nature photography and it was neat looking for interesting stuff to use for this challenge.

So looking at facebook, I think I might have gotten my days mixed up and accidentally skipped a day, but I posted seven pictures altogether so I think I still covered it anyway. LOL.

Day 2: cloudy blue sky day:12792143_10208422628985932_6370531293060122888_o

Day 3: yard weeds (a repost from a few weeks ago)12804648_10208438133493535_3929469358099076261_n

Day 4: Rosemary that survived the winter:12496380_10208446023410778_7947967182669593928_o

Day 5: Pine12514087_10208453296792608_5059617240039735134_o

Day 6: Little Crooked Big Horn12496345_10208453328113391_2035734173532667778_o

Day 7: Stumped10371250_10208459075377069_1028701153207602714_o

And that’s all folks. Seven day challenge ended. Time to find a new challenge.

Anyone have a good one?

Seven Day Nature Challenge

As a photographer, I think it always helps add a little creative energy to my work whenever I challenge myself or jump in a photo hunt that makes me look for specific things. Whatever it may be... In this case, another lovely photographer on Facebook tagged me for this seven days of photographing nature challenge, which I happily accept.

Day 1: Raindrops on (not) roses
 12747373_10208412812740532_2366885996004567298_o

I have no idea what this plant is, this was like the flowering stems on some type of bush. I just noticed the raindrops left by a passing shower and loved them.

What nature pictures do you like shooting? Or viewing?

Creativity Boosted

Sometimes it’s easy to get stuck in a rut in photography. To just get used to shooting certain things or certain styles. Sometimes, I just need it to be fun again…I love fun stuff!

One of my school assignments this semester is to shadow a local photographer, so I did that this past weekend. That was so amazing! I have great teachers at school, and I’ve been in some inspiring classes, but it’s always incredible to get unique perspectives and learn new things. We went down to a local lake (not more than a pond, really), and shot at sunset. It rocked.

I love fresh perspective and energy.

Here are my favorites:

It’s SO cool how much the sky and light changes in such a short amount of time.

Anyway, it was a totally cool experience…both in coolness factor AND temperature. LOL, my hands were numb when we finished, but I’m a total wuss when it comes to cold weather. It was 47 degrees which was totally not bad. Haha. But still. Incredible.

And now it is time to call it a night. Till next time…

Finally

The finish line is in sight! This is the final semester to my degree in Photographic Technology.

This is the semester when everything gets serious...it's going to be a lot of work, but totally worth it. I'll probably be around quite a bit over the next couple of months since an online presence is on the project list for this last semester. I've been working on getting a gallery set up and will need to start linking everything together next.

Portfolio is a lot of work, but we have a lot of class time assigned to do the work, so I'm hopeful that I'll get it all accomplished on time.

I worked on some ideas today and used my available resources. LOL.

These are just to get a feel for what direction I want to go with this project. I don't know for sure that I'll continue in this direction, but I love how this shows my kids' individual personalities...right now.

They are getting too big. It's sad. And amazing at the same time.

To be continued....
